LATERAL POLICE OFFICER Apply Today
$29.44 Hourly / $61,235 Yearly Full Hourly Range: $29.44 - 41.42 USD
The Police Officer position at the City of Tucson’s Police Department protects life and property through the enforcement of criminal laws, education, crime prevention, and communication. This position partners with the community through patrolling routes, responding to emergency situations and complaints, and collision investigations.
Must be AZPOST Certified or certified in another state with the ability to obtain an AZPOST waiver. Work is performed under the supervision of a police sergeant. This position does not supervise.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent or a related field.
- Must be 21 years of age
- Must be a US Citizen
- Must have a valid and unrestricted Class D driver license
- No felony convictions or drug abuse
Must be AZPOST Certified or certified in another state with the ability to obtain an AZPOST waiver (see below).
The current lateral pay scale is as follows:
(A new lateral pay scale is being evaluated. These rates may be increased prior to your conditional job offer.)
- 1-3.99 years of sworn law enforcement experience - $29.44/hour
- 4-5.99 years of sworn law enforcement experience - $30.61/hour
- 6-7.99 years of sworn law enforcement experience - $32.34/hour
- 8-10.99 years of sworn law enforcement experience - $33.63/hour
- 11+ years of sworn law enforcement experience - $35.31/hour
**In accordance with pay transparency, the salary reflected in this posting is the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate’s current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position.
In lieu of attending the Public Safety Academy, applicants who are currently certified as a peace officer in another state may be eligible to obtain the AZPOST certification through the waiver process. To be eligible for this process, applicants must meet the following criteria:
1. Have previously served as a certified peace officer in Arizona, another state, or federal agency
2. Have completed basic and advanced training that demonstrates substantial comparability to the Arizona basic course
3. Obtain an appointment from an Arizona Law Enforcement Agency
4. Meet all of the minimum qualifications for certification as an Arizona Peace Officer

COMMUNITY SERVICE OFFICER
$21.00 Hourly / $43,680 Yearly
The Community Service Officer position at the City of Tucson’s Police Department responds to and investigates non-emergency crimes, accidents, and dispatched calls. Provides front-facing customer service to members of the public at police facilities. Engages in field duties that do not involve enforcement of state laws, investigation of violent crimes, or responding to emergencies.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent or a related field.
- The minimum age to apply for this position is 18 years old.
- Valid and unrestricted Class D Driver License - Arizona Department of Transportation - Motor Vehicle Division

PROFESSIONAL STAFF INVESTIGATOR
$21.96 - $37.88 Hourly / $45.676 Yearly
The Professional Staff Investigator position at the City of Tucson’s Police Department investigates and analyzes evidence to determine the cause and source of crimes. This position manages case loads, assists the public and law enforcement agencies, and reviews prescreens for police and professional staff applicants.
